Drinking Water

Lately I decided I’d try my hand at that famous idea that you should drink 8 glasses of water every day.

I used to only drink water when I was thirsty or if I had a drink in front of me, but knowing these habits weren’t really ideal for my health, I thought I’d try out this whole daily water intake thing.

At first I thought it was a bit overhyped - if anything, I just found myself having to go to the bathroom more often. But after a few days, I’ve been experiencing less headaches, and less of that feeling where you wake up in the middle of the night feeling like you’ve been stranded in a desert for the past month and as soon as you take a sip of water your reptilian brain takes over and you chug like your life depends on it. Which is nice.

For me, I found that the biggest barrier between my daily water intake goal and me is as simple as me being too lazy to refill my water bottle. Even if I’m feeling a little thirsty, if my water bottle is empty, I just won’t bother drinking water until I’m absolutely dying for it. Until the benefit outweighs the cost of me walking all the way downstairs for some water, I just won’t do it.

So my goal recently has just been to refill my water bottle as soon as it’s empty. That way, I sip water throughout the day absentmindedly simply because it’s there, and it’s helped me hit my goal much more easily.

If you’re the type of person who doesn’t like water, I will never understand you, but there are ways you can get around this and still stay hydrated! If you’re looking for a little bit of flavor, you can make and drink fruit infused water pretty easily that is tasty and refreshing! Also, it makes you feel pretty fancy, which is always a plus. Tea is also an option, whether it’s iced or not. You can also drink fruit juices, although go easy on those, since they tend to be loaded with sugar if store-bought. With both tea and fruit juice, the best option is always homemade since you know exactly what’s going into your body.

Nowadays, it’s more important than ever to be taking care of yourself, and drinking water can be an easy and cheap way to do so! So, if you don’t have any water right now, go get up and drink a glass! Your body will thank you.
