About

What we do

Stem4Free is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization fostering the reduction of wasted consumable food of entities in the food industry on both a national and international scale, raising awareness about food wastage, and providing a platform for youth advocacy regarding healthy lifestyles. As of 2020, 925 million people are starving, yet every year, 1.3 billion tons of food is wasted. This amount alone is enough to feed 3 billion people. Furthermore, food waste accounts for 4.4 gigatonnes of greenhouse gas emissions every year, being the 3rd largest greenhouse gas emitter per year, only behind China and the United States. Putting this into perspective, reducing the amount of food that is wasted could help reduce the number of people who starve every year, as well as help make our Earth a greener and safer place. In order to help, we promote the sustainable consumption of food by partnering with restaurants, businesses, and organizations and distributing leftover food that would have otherwise been thrown out or donations from these entities to local food banks and homeless shelters at the end of the day.
