For years, Stem4Free has measured itself in one number: servings rescued. It's a number I'm proud of — it represents real food, picked up by real volunteers, delivered to real people who needed it. But somewhere along the way, I realized that number was invisible to almost everyone outside our own volunteer network. A person walking past a Stem4Free pickup had no way to see what we were doing, or why it mattered.
So I'm changing that. Starting today, Stem4Free isn't just a food rescue operation — it's becoming a place where anyone, anywhere, can tell their own food rescue story. Whether you volunteer with us, or you just noticed your local grocery store discounting bread near closing time and thought about waste for the first time, this is a place to share it.
Every story published here goes through a quick review, and every reported serving count adds to our public total—visible in real time on this site. This isn't about replacing the operational work we've always done. It's about giving that work, and the work of people we've never met, a place to be seen.
If you've rescued food — from a bakery, a cafeteria, your own kitchen — I want to hear about it. Submit your story below.
